Incident at Kakia Skala on August 17, 2023

Following the particularly serious fire incident on a tank truck at the 46th km of Athens-Korinthos NNR on August 17, 2023, and the relevant joint statement of the Hellenic Police and the Fire Brigade, we point out that according to the provisions of the Project’s Operation Manuals and the Joint Action Plans with the competent Authorities, for dealing with similar incidents the personnel and the available resources (mechanism) of the Motorway support and assist the implementation of the decisions made by the competent Authorities. 

Within this framework, in this case:

• First, we located the incident and informed the Authorities about it, while the entire personnel of the Motorway were made available to the said Authorities.
• Throughout the incident, using all available resources, and while the levy of tolls has been suspended on the section of Elefsina-Korinthos:
  • We supported the implementation of all necessary traffic arrangements along the motorway, under the orders of the Traffic Police;
  • We continuously informed the passing drivers about the condition of the network (electronic signs of Olympia Odos and adjacent motorways, toll station personnel, Press Releases sent to the Media, social media, website);
  • We supplied bottles of drinking water distributed, where possible (by the Hellenic Police, the Fire Brigade and our own crews);
  • We were constantly communicating and cooperating with the Center of Operations of the General Secretariat for Civil Protection and the Emergency Services.

We are deeply sorry about the discomfort of the travelers on a day of particularly increased traffic and we thank them for their understanding and for complying with the instructions of the Traffic Police.
