Distance-based tolling is now in effect at the Varda Interchange on the Patras-Pyrgos Motorway.

Since 2021, Olympia Odos has been implementing the distance-based tolling system from Elefsina to Patras for all vehicle categories equipped with an Olympia Pass transponder. The rollout of this system to the new Patras-Pyrgos section commenced in March 2026. 

Following the implementation of the distance-based tolling at the Kato Achaia and Amaliada Interchanges in March 2026, the distance-based tolling gantries at the Varda Interchange will also become operational on Friday, July 17, 2026. The distance-based tolling provides drivers of passenger cars, light trucks, and trucks (categories 2, 3, and 4) with a refund of 28%–45% of the initial toll.

In conjunction with the distance-based tolling system, Category 2 (passenger cars) drivers also benefit from the VALUE discount scheme, which offers progressive discounts ranging from 15% to 60%, depending on the frequency of passages through each toll station.

Consequently, passenger car drivers can expect to enjoy significant savings, with potential savings of up to 58% on the Midilogli–Varda route and up to 68% on the Kato Achaia–Varda route. For example, an employee who makes 40 passages per month on the Midilogli-Varda route (initial toll of €144) will pay €70.85 (i.e., a 51% discount) upon implementation of distance-based tolling and using the VALUE discount scheme through the OLYMPIA PASS transponder.

How distance-based tolling is activated?

The service is activated by obtaining an OLYMPIA PASS transponder, which records the vehicle's entry and exit from the motorway, and automatically credits the corresponding refund to the subscriber's account.

The transponder is complimentary and can be obtained online at www.olympiaodos.gr or the Customer Service Centers. The Olympia Odos mobile App allows drivers to easily manage their accounts, track their passages, and monitor their transponders in real time.
