Yesterday, Olympia Odos opened its doors to the public for the second year, this time welcoming students from the 1st Vocational High School of Megara specializing in Electronics and Electrical Systems, Installations and Networks, as part of the "Open Tour 2026" event. The objective of the one-day visit was to provide students in technical fields with a distinctive experience of the "behind-the-scenes" sites of the Motorway, focusing on the individuals, the expertise, and the innovations that help maintain safe and smooth traffic 24/7.
The program included a tour of the Traffic Management Center in Vlychada, Megara, the maintenance facilities, the salt storage areas, and the road patrol vehicle workshops. Participants also had the opportunity to observe traffic management systems and an escape tunnel in the Kakia Skala area. The program also featured a brief presentation of Olympia Odos' sustainability initiatives, including energy production from solar farms and waste management. Particular emphasis was placed on innovative practices aimed at enhancing the travel experience. These include the distance-based Tolling System, which is available via the OLYMPIA PASS transponder, and technologies such as SMART TUNNEL, which enhance road safety, as well as the social footprint of the Company who supports road safety initiatives in collaboration with the "Panos Mylonas" Road Safety Institute (RSI).
"The significant interest generated by the first 'Open Tour' last year demonstrated the public's keen interest in understanding the maintenance and operation of the infrastructure they utilize daily," stated Th. Prokos, Deputy Operation Manager at Olympia Odos Operation S.A. "This year, we had the pleasure of welcoming our visitors once again—this time, students in technical fields—and took this opportunity to showcase our teams' expertise through a more appealing, engaging experience."
"This year's opportunity to visit Olympia Odos as part of a school field trip was both enjoyable and informative”, says Mr. I. Theodossiou, Principal of the 1st Vocational High School of Megara. "I plan to return next year with another group of students."
