Recently, Olympia Odos hosted the Open Tour 2025 event for automotive journalists. The event aimed to show them the infrastructure, people, and innovative technological systems behind the operation of a modern motorway. These systems ensure a safe and unique travel experience for the tens of thousands of travelers who choose Olympia Odos.
Olympia Odos promised the guests a special backstage experience, starting with a guided tour of the officers' workplaces and the underground tunnel at the Elefsina Toll Station. Next, they visited the state-of-the-art Traffic Management Center in Vlychada, where they learned about the traffic monitoring and coordination systems, intelligent services, and incident management practices. The guests were given a tour of all the facilities and met the people who ensure the motorway's daily safety and smooth operation. They were also presented with the employee safety policies. Afterwards, they stopped at the old Traffic Management Center in Kakia Skala and visited one of the escape tunnels, which revealed the culture of anticipation and preparedness for driver safety and emergency situations.
The important sustainable development and advanced road safety initiatives of Olympia Odos were presented during the trip along the motorway. The executives presented the company's strategic goal of becoming a zero-emission motorway by 2030, as well as the actions already implemented to achieve this goal, such as: LED lighting in the tunnels, which has led to a reduction in energy consumption of more than 55%; the LED open road program combined with adaptive lighting, which reduces energy consumption by up to 75%; and the photovoltaic parks constructed along the motorway aiming to the self-generation of the energy -now reduced- needed by the infrastructure to operate.
Special reference was made to the emblematic Olympia Odos project, i.e. the distance-based tolling provided through the OLYMPIA Pass transponder, which is a major social investment. Among Olympia Odos's innovative programs, the "Water from the Air" program stands out. In eleven parking lots along the motorway, it provides travelers with free, clean drinking water produced from air humidity using solar energy. Guests experienced the "smart" applications offered by the Olympia Odos mobile app and the comprehensive suite of services for OLYMPIA PASS subscribers.
At the end of the tour, there was an opportunity to discuss everything that was presented. The discussion highlighted the importance of forecasting, technological innovation, and the value of human resources in creating a motorway that offers safety, reliability, and quality on every trip.
As Olympia Odos's Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Papanikolas, stressed, "Today, we opened the doors of Olympia Odos and gave our guests the opportunity to experience the daily life of the motorway officers firsthand. We were pleased to give them a tour of our infrastructure and share all of our ongoing investments in extensive programs that focus on innovation and cutting-edge technology and have significant and measurable results. Through hands-on experiences, simulations, and direct contact with our staff, the ‘Olympia Odos Open Tour 2025’ showcased the daily care, preparedness, and innovation that support Olympia Odos's commitment to ensuring safe and comfortable trips for all."
