Launch of ambitious solar energy program along Athens-Corinth-Patras-Pyrgos highway

• The largest highway solar energy program in Greece
• 17 solar plants along the highway with a production capacity of 9,5 MWp
• 100% energy self-sufficiency by the end of 2025

Athens-Corinth-Patras-Pyrgos highway has started the deployment of the largest highway solar energy program ever developed in Greece. In total, 17 solar plants are currently being installed on the rooftops and parking areas of the highway’s maintenance centers, rooftops of toll administration buildings, toll station canopies, and on unused roadside land adjacent to the highway, in the perimeter of the concession.

The solar energy program will reach an installed capacity of 9,5 MWp, equivalent to the consumption of more than approx. 1000 inhabitants[1] per year. It will reduce CO₂ emissions by more than 5.000 tons per year.

The first phase of the program (3,8 MWp) was awarded to Omexom Hellas (VINCI Energies).Works are currently ongoing, withfirst plants in Rio and Kiato to be put into operation in the next weeks. This first phase will be achieved next autumn.

A second phase of development (5,7 MWp) was awarded to IXION Energy (AVAX) and is under study.  The aim of attaining 100% energy self-sufficiency will be achieved by the end of 2025.
