On Friday, March 13, 2026, the first distance-based tolling gantries will commence operations at the Kato Achaia Interchange of the new Patras-Pyrgos motorway. Following its opening to traffic, the motorway is now in the process of completing and optimizing the infrastructure and services it offers to its users.
The implementation of distance-based tolling, a feature exclusive to Olympia Odos since 2021, is pivotal to its strategy for a modern and equitable toll system, where private car drivers and professionals pay solely for the distance they travel. For private vehicles, distance-based tolling is combined with the VALUE discount scheme, offering a total savings of up to 77%, depending on the route.
Gradual Implementation
The operation of the distance-based tolling system on the Patras-Pyrgos motorway will be gradually expanded as the installation of the equipment and the necessary testing of the systems at each interchange are completed. This will allow drivers to immediately enjoy the reduced charges.
Following the Kato Achaia interchange (Gomosto), the Amaliada interchange will be the next point of implementation, where testing is scheduled to commence. Additionally, after Easter, the gantries at the Varda and Gastouni interchanges, which are currently under construction, are expected to become operational.
How distance-based tolling is activated?
The service is activated by obtaining an OLYMPIA PASS transponder, which records the vehicle's entry and exit from the motorway, and automatically credits the corresponding refund to the subscriber's account.
The acquisition of the transponder is free of charge and can be done online through www.olympiaodos.gr or at Customer Service Stations. Through the Olympia Odos Mobile App, drivers can top up their account, monitor their passages, and manage their transponder in real time.
Concurrently, the VALUE discount scheme is available through the transponder, offering progressive discounts ranging from 15% to 60% for passenger cars and light trucks, depending on the frequency of passage through each toll station (see examples on the next page).
For more information and to apply for the OLYMPIA PASS transponder, please visit www.olympiaodos.gr or contact the Customer Service at 22960-95555.
Safe & enjoyable trips!
EXAMPLES ON HOW THE DISTANCE-BASED TOLLING & THE VALUE DISCOUNT SCHEME WORK
PRIVATE CAR ON THE MINDILOGLI – KATO ACHAIA ROUTE (GOMOSTO):
For an employee making 40 passages per month on the Mindilogli-Kato Achaia route, the initial cost would be €144. Following the implementation of distance-based tolling and the use of the VALUE discount scheme through the OLYMPIA PASS transponder, the total charge will amount to €38.15.
Therefore, the cost of each passage will be less than €1, which represents a 74% discount.
PROFESSIONAL DRIVER ON THE VIPE - KATO ACHAIA ROUTE (GOMOSTO):
A category 3 commercial vehicle (2-3 axles) on the VIPE - Kato Achaia route has an initial cost of €9, while with the distance-based tolling using the OLYMPIA PASS transponder, the cost is of €3.50, representing a 61% discount.
Similarly, the initial cost of a category 4 truck is €12.70, while the OLYMPIA PASS reduces this cost by 61% to €5.00.
