In view of the increased traffic along the motorway that is again expected this year due to the Christmas and New Year holidays, Olympia Odos has put its staff and motorway equipment on high alert, in order to intervene immediately 24/7 in any incident, and reminds everyone of some safe driving rules, especially in bad weather conditions.

• Check your vehicle (fuel, oil, coolant, lights, turn signals and air pressure in the tires) before starting your trip;
• Check the Variable Message Signs of the motorway. The staff of the Traffic Management Center communicate with you and give you valuable information about the route ahead of you. You can also receive audio messages through the Olympia Odos mobile App while traveling.
• See to the safe transport of trailers, bicycles and animals. 
• Do not drive and do not stop on the Emergency Lane!
• If you need to speak to the phone and you are not equipped with a Bluetooth device, stop at a parking area along the motorway (available at every 10-12 km). 

Some extra tips in case of bad weather conditions

VINCI Highways, part of whose network is Olympia Odos, has launched a pan-European campaign for safe winter driving. Key instructions:

• Prepare your vehicle before you set off. Make sure it has all the necessary equipment (snow chains/blankets, gloves, ice scraper, etc.).
• Check that your vehicle's tires are in good condition. Low temperatures can affect their pressure. Remember that it is mandatory to equip your vehicle with snow chains or other similar means from October to April each year. 
• Check the road conditions before setting off. Consult the Olympia Odos widget for the weather along the entire motorway.
• Start your trip earlier and avoid peak hours. Thanks to the Olympia Odos Traffic Prediction service, planning any trip becomes very easy.
• If you are traveling on a snowy road and snowplows are ahead, do not overtake them, but stay behind them and follow their path on the pavement.
• Make frequent stops at safe places such as Motorist Service Stations (MSS). Winter driving requires more concentration and rest.
