Olympia Odos prepares for winter season

  • Major mobilization of teams to ensure accessibility, safety, and comfort while driving
  • Winter preparedness exercise to prevent adverse weather conditions
  • Raising driver awareness of measures to protect their vehicles

With the start of the winter season, Olympia Odos is activating its winter operations program. The operational bases at five (5) locations on the motorway are on full alert, ready to face the significant challenges of winter, while the motorway operation teams are conducting winter readiness exercises. The winter fleet, which includes snow plows and salt spreaders, has been prepared for the snowfall season. Concurrently, Olympia Odos is implementing a campaign to raise awareness among drivers about the necessary preparations they can make to their vehicles.

Winter Preparedness Exercises

Winter preparedness exercises were conducted by sector, specifically: On Thursday, November 20, 2025, on the Elefsina-Xylokastro Sector conducted from the Ano Vlychada Megara Operation Center and on the Xylokastro-Mindilogli Sector from the Patras Operation Center, the Akrata Technical Base, and the Pyrgos Technical Base on Thursday, November 13, 2025.

Specifically, the exercises commence with the inspection and assembly of project machinery in an open space, followed by the presentation of the winter maintenance manual indoors, and concluding with the demonstration of the routes of the project machinery in the snow removal field.

 Large-scale Mobilization

Concurrently, Olympia Odos is implementing an information campaign designed to provide motorists with guidance on winter driving safety. During this period, it is imperative to implement additional safety measures, as engine failures are more prevalent, vehicle fluids are susceptible to freezing, and vehicle tires do not adapt as readily to changing driving conditions. To assist drivers in such cases, our teams stand by to intervene immediately.

Drivers are advised to ensure their vehicles are adequately prepared by checking tire pressure, weather and traffic conditions, planning timely departures, avoiding overtaking snowplows, and taking frequent breaks.
