Olympia Odos achieves full lighting modernization

Olympia Odos has completed a large-scale modernization of its entire lighting system, covering all tunnels and covered sections. With this upgrade, Olympia Odos becomes a 100% LED highway, achieving more than 55% energy savings compared with conventional sodium lighting. Over 5,000 LED luminaires were installed, all connected to a new smart control system that allows each light to be managed individually. This digital system optimizes lighting levels, maintenance, and energy efficiency while ensuring consistent visibility and safety for drivers.

As part of the same project, the interior of the tunnels was repainted with an innovative, highly reflective, photocatalytic paint (Vitex FOS). It enhances the diffusion of light inside the tunnels, reduces the deposition of nitrogen dioxide pollutants in closed vehicle traffic spaces and contributes to the breakdown of these air pollutants. This is the first application of such an area in Greece. More than 125,000 sq.m. were covered with the innovative material.

This initiative is part of Olympia Odos’ broader roadmap to decarbonize its operations by 2030. It adds to a series of actions aimed at building more sustainable infrastructure, including investments in photovoltaic parks and the installation of electric vehicle charging stations along the highway. Together, these initiatives reflect Olympia Odos’ long-term commitment to reducing its environmental footprint while improving the quality and safety of the infrastructure it operates.
