Large Scale Drill in the area of Kakia Skala Tunnels

The large-scale drill in Aithra Tunnel of Kakia Skala has been successfully conducted in the middle of November. The scenario of the exercise provided for an intervention in the tunnel following a road accident and the burst of a fire. The Drill was conducted in cooperation with the Fire Brigade and the participation of the Ministry for Infrastructure & Transport, the Hellenic Police and the EKAV Ambulances.

"The readiness exercise, apart from the coordination of the involved bodies, gives us the opportunity to evaluate the equipment of the tunnels in real conditions and prepare the staff for similar incidents", said Mr. Thanassis Prokos, Manager of the Elefsina-Xylokastro Sector, in the presence of the Commander of the Fire Brigade Department of Megara, Lieutenant Fire Colonel Dimitris Kaiafas and the Commander of the 1st Department of the Motorway Traffic Police, Mr. George Yaseranis.

Large-scale Drills in tunnels are organized every four (4) years and are conducted in cooperation with the Fire Brigade and the participation of all involved bodies.

For Olympia Odos, the safety of the drivers and the Company’s personnel is a top priority.  Within this context, the motorway equipment is regularly checked and the personnel is continuously trained to provide high-level services to the drivers. At the same time, safe driving information campaigns are organized in cooperation with the Road Safety Institute (RSI) “Panos Mylonas” and on the safety at work in cooperation with the Hellenic Institute for Occupational Health and Safety (ELINYAE).
