Road Safety and InfrastructureRoad Safety and Infrastructure

A large infrastructure project is not finished just upon the completion of its construction. Innovative techniques, such as the Smart Tunnel program to improve the maintenance of the Motorway, the Pavement Management Plan Tool and MIRANDA settlement monitoring tool, contribute to the prevention of dangerous incidents and accidents and ensure road safety. The company constantly invests, above and beyond its contractual obligations, in a series of extensive programs with significant and measurable results.

Smart Tunnel

Tunnel: An innovative concept in Europe

Smart Tunnel is an innovative global approach to improving highway maintenance strategies. It is an integrated and independent solution, installed as part of the existing electromechanical infrastructure of the tunnels, and provides foresight for their maintenance needs.
Olympia Odos has designed an Infrastructure Management System using the latest technologies, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning, which provide real-time monitoring and predictive maintenance data (predictive maintenance) of the infrastructure. This system is made possible thanks to the Smart Tunnel program. The Smart Tunnel is currently installed in the 700m long "Girokomeio" tunnel and in the D2 building (substation and pumping station) of Perimetriki Patras.

Large Scale Exercises

Our primary concern is the safety of motorway users. Therefore, we organise and implement large-scale Exercises to prepare for dealing with serious incidents.

In 2021, two (2) exercises were carried out in the Derveni and Panagopoula tunnels in February and November, respectively.

In addition to the above, Winter Maintenance Exercises are held annually for adequate preparation and readiness in view of the coming winter.

All the involved bodies, especially representatives from the Prefecture's Traffic and Civil Protection Departments, participate in these exercises.

Our Commitments

We continue to focus on heavy maintenance and on incorporating technological innovations into strategic aspects of the motorway project to ensure that the project remains well maintained by the end of the concession term.
