Protecting The EnvironmentalProtecting the Environment

Olympia Odos’ strategy for environmentally sustainable road infrastructure focuses on the use of modern technologies that contribute to the protection of the environment and do not disturb the quality of life of users and residents of neighboring areas. We are committed to managing and reducing our energy footprint, and the goal we have set for energy neutrality contributes significantly to preventing climate change. Applying this strategy, the company proceeded to measure its carbon footprint for 2021, laying the foundations for its ongoing reduction.

Reduced carbon footprint of the Motorway

Reduced carbon footprint of the Motorway

We actively advanced our energy neutrality agenda through strategic initiatives, by incorporating zero-emission vehicles, and LED lighting upgrades in tunnels, resulting in a remarkable 60% energy reduction. All fuel types are now available, and our facilities used certified renewable energy in 2023. Innovative measures, such as applying light-colored pavement coating in the Thiseas Tunnel, contribute to reduced power consumption and carbon emissions. Our commitment is evident in a 25% reduction in energy footprint since 2017, aligning with VINCI Highways' global environmental strategy for sustainable road transport across 16 countries, aiming for Zero CO2 emissions by 2030.

Adaptive Lighting program

Adaptive Lighting program

Olympia Odos has successfully initiated the Adaptive Lighting system, employing a predictive algorithm to anticipate traffic conditions up to an hour ahead. The system dynamically adjusts lighting across a broader area, proportionally aligning with real-time traffic and predefined thresholds, prioritizing driver safety. Integrated with "situation awareness" devices at motorway interchanges, such as cameras and meteorological stations, it continuously monitors for potential hazards. In the event of an incident, the lighting capacity automatically maximises for 2 km around the incident, while in parallel notifies instantly the Traffic Management Center. The system is set for full implementation by 2024, ensuring swift response and enhanced road safety.

Our Commitments

Olympia Odos aims to operate the motorway in an innovative and environmentally friendly way. We continue to invest in modern technologies that protect the environment and prevent climate change. As part of our environmentally sustainable road infrastructure strategy, we aim at energy neutrality.
