The award that Olympia Odos received from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) is an international recognition for the employees of the Project and the entire technical world of Greece.
Olympia Odos was among the five outstanding projects honored during a splendid ceremony held in Washington, on March 14, 2019. Officials of Olympia Odos, a representative of the State Service (MIT), officials of VINCI Group and of the technical advisors of the Project attended the Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award ceremony.
Olympia Odos motorway was selected among 100 nominations from all over the world and is the only European project that received this specific distinction.
Mr. Panayiotis Papanikolas, CEO of Olympia Odos and Country Manager (Greece) of Vinci Concessions SA made the following statement when receiving the commemorative plaque:
“It is a great honor for Olympia Odos and Greece that the motorway was the only European project honored during the American Society of Civil Engineers, a very prestigious international competition. This great distinction vindicates a great effort made by a large number of people and proves how difficult this Project was both in terms of management (due to its construction under traffic) and in purely technical terms because of the important number of large structures implemented in a zone of particularly high seismic activity, in a narrow strip of land between the mountains and the sea, which is also one of the richest areas in archaeological findings all over the world.”
He also thanked the shareholders of the Project, VINCI Concessions which is the leader shareholder, the three large Greek construction companies, namely AKTOR, TERNA, J&P-AVAX, as well as the German Hochtief and all those who contributed to the Project.
Officials of Olympia Odos, a representative of the State Service (MIT), officials of VINCI Group and officials of the technical advisors of the Project attended the ceremony.
