Korinthos - Patras

Olympia Odos is one of the most difficult motorway construction projects in Greece, since it is the only motorway of which a large part was constructed while operating at the same time.

Simultaneous construction and operation

The widening and reconstruction of the Korinthos - Patras motorway was in some parts on one direction and in others on two directions.  In brief, the specifics of the project were:

  • A large number of Traffic Arrangements with priority given to the safety of motorists and site workers, while at the same time ensuring the constructability of the project (pic. 1)
  • Simultaneous construction activity all along the Korinthos – Patras motorway, not in sections
  • Construction and traffic near residential areas (pic. 2)
  • Steep relief (tectonic faults, lack of space, history of landslides etc.) (pic. 3)
  • A great number of existing structures that required interventions or demolition
  • Parallel construction of the Railway Line (ERGOSE) (pic. 4)
